A 50-bed girls boarding hostel, similar to the one above which was built at The Australian Secondary School at Kambona recently, is being built on the site of The Australian Progressive Academy at Nogwe. The new project, aimed at encouraging female students to complete their secondary education, comes amid a flurry of activity at the school site.
The construction of onsite houses for the Academy's Principal and female Deputy is all but completed.
A sturdy 15HP petrol generator airfreighted in from Australia will provide power for all of the school's lighting needs - a vital asset in the absence of an electricity supply line.
The arrival of the computer coincided with the local purchase of ten desktop computers

.....and a pictorial array of library reference materials HIV/AIDS Education -Schools AIDS Day initiative The Australian Progressive Academy teaches its students about all aspects of HIV/AIDS and other diseases as part of its courses covering sciencxe, biology and social studies. The school population if more than 400 includes a number of AIDS orphans and children living with HIV. The Academy is about to pilot an annual Schools AIDS Day to focus on HIV/AIDS awareness and the dangers of stigma and discrimination. It's hoped that this initiative may be copied in other Malawian schools. The Schools AIDS Day initiative started in Australia in the 1990's Schools AIDS Day
