The Nogwe 'foodbowl' harvest is in and it's exceeded our wildest expectations!
The croplands comprise ten one-hectare lots which were bought by The Australian AIDS Fund....and some 11 acres of this was planted to a variety of crops.
Here's the yield:-
MAIZE............................................. 230 bags...............or 10.7 tons !
RICE............................................... 80 bags..............or 3.5 tons !
POTATOES.................................... 30 bags...............or 1.5 tons !
SOYA............................................. 25 bags..............or half a ton !
That's over 16 tons...enough to feed the children at Nogwe and also the Ndirande villages
.................AND the more than 1,400 highly nutritous banana plants have also begun bearing fruit !!!
Next year the teenagers at the Australian Secondary School at Nogwe...or The Australian Progressive Academy a it's known locally...will be directly involved with the 'foodbowl' project as agriculture will be a curriculum subject
