WATER
October 2007
The Australian AIDS Fund funded a special water project
at Ndirande...in the Matope Village...involving the construction
of two 70,000 litre storage pipes and two pipelines...one
of them 3 kilometres long and tthe other 4 kilometres long.

Shortly before Christmas 2005, the second of Msema's two water
bores finally failed, forcing the population of more than 2,500
people and its surrounding population of 3,000, to seek fresh
supplies from sources miles away, either on foot, or by bicycle
or other hired vehicles.
Now, with our funding, Msema will have 3 water bores of its own................two
in the village area...and a third on the site of The Australian
Primary School that's specifically for the children's needs.
The school's opening is delayed until June by which time this
third well will be drilled.......the delay caused by the heavy
drought-breaking rains which briefly raised the water table levels.
But giant strides have been made considering that the whole Malawi
project was only started in April 2005...just a year ago!
| In December 2006, following
an unsuccessful search for bore water on the site of The Australian
Primary School & Orphans Learning Centre (to be officially
opened in January 2007) a water tank was installed to maintain
a plentiful supply. It's serviced by a 2-kilometre pipeline
system! |
