SANITATION
Sanitation has been a top priority in the overall Msema project
as evidenced in the construction of more than 14 toilets together
with urinary rooms at The Australian Primary School alone, quite
apart from the others built at the mini-orphanages, the Mothers
and Babies Health Care Centre, the diesel mill site, and the site
of the 2 retail shops not far from the village.
Just recently, sponsored by The Australian AIDS Fund, and in hand
with its Searchlight Orphan Care partner, local builders were
engaged to demonstrate the construction of re-informed concrete
toilet slabs..vital for better sanitation systems that reduce
the risk of injury and disease.
The demonstration was part of the Hygiene and Sanitation Seminar
course which attracted a good turnout of men, women and children...all
keenly interested to see and hear about how their living standards
could be improved by focussing on improved sanitation and more
modern toilet systems that'll eventually provide another significant
bonus......fertiliser to help their crops grow.
