We're pleased to
announce that in hand with our partner agency, Searchlight
Orphan Care, we've bought another, larger and well-treed private
property as a home for 50 AIDS orphans in Msema. We're caring
for more than 80 now.
It's been named Malawi House, after the national slogan
-Malawi, the warm heart of Africa!
It's being re-decorated throughout and 4 new structures
will be added to provide new toilet and bathing room facilities
( 2 of each).New blankets, mosquito nets, and household
goods have also been bought along with recreational items.
Maize Mill
There are some 10,000 maize growers in the Msema region
who produce a harvest of some 15,000 tons. The purchase of
this mill will spare very many people from having to carry
their maize on their heads to a distant mill, while the
poor and the needy will also have their maize milled without
charge. It should also be a significant income earner. A
house for the mill operator will also be built on the site.
Australian Primary School
A further feature that's just been added to this complex
is a school kitchen to help provide for those who'd otherwise
go hungry and be unable to continue attending school.
Four houses are also to be built on the site to accommodate
teachers and the school will also have its own water bore
sunk in the grounds.
A mini-library has also been established in the Resource
Centre which has also been supplied with books and videos
from Australia and England as well as the commercial centre
of Blantyre.
The recently planted grove of some 90 fruit trees is also
coming along well.
Meet the Kangaroos and the Matildas!
We also thrilled to report on the establishment of the Msema
football team...the Kangaroos (and there's also a junior
squad) ....and a girls' basketball team....the Matildas.
They posed for these photos as soon as they were kitted
out in their new outfits.
They have their own sportsground and we've also built a
solid clubhouse there to meet their team needs.
More Australian schoolchildren drawn to the project.
We're delighted to welcome the staff and students of the
St Francis Xavier Primary School at Frankston, Victoria
(Australia) who've decided to join other Australian schoolchildren
in supporting this project. Your support is very welcome!
